2022 MAMA Awards teases return as fans anticipate clash between Blackpink and BTS for Daesang
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: 2022 MAMA Awards is on the horizon, and K-pop fans have already started speculating about who is truly deserving of the award night's biggest prize โ the Daesang. While BTS swooped in and picked up the Daesang at the Korean Music Awards, many fans are guessing Blackpink will bring the prize home at the upcoming MAMA Awards. Even though BTS bagged the grand prize last year, there is a possibility that Blackpink wrests it from them, this time.
The world's No 1 K-pop awards released a teaser on September 27 signaling their return at the end of the year. CNM, the company behind MAMA, revealed the grand event will last two days, November 29-30, at Kyocera Dome Osaka, Japan, in August. The much-awaited awards will be broadcasted and streamed on many global platforms including YouTube. Previously, MAMA awards went by the title Mnet to which the company stated, "We are rebranding 'Mnet Asian Music Awards' to 'MAMA Awards' in line with changes in the global music market, such as the expansion of K-pop's influence from Asia to the world. We will present shows and stages with their own iconic scenes. We will expand and evolve from MAMA, which has introduced K-pop to the world, and become the Worldโs No.1 K-pop Awards to promote the true value of K-pop in the world.โ
