Authorities have said that they will not release any additional information at this time as they want to protect the integrity of the investigation. As per the report, Chief Tumminelli of the Stuart Police Department said, "Stuart Police Detectives are actively investigating a shooting that occurred on 10th Street at 7.40 pm on Thanksgiving evening. Three individuals were shot, two critically and one is deceased. To protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation, no other information will be released at this time".

Social media reactions on Facebook to the post by the police department were heartbreaking with people refusing to believe the news, "Unbelievable so lost for words... ."  Another commented, "This is just too much anymore.. I remember being safe in my state. It’s becoming so I don’t." Many expressed sympathies with the family and said that the hatred was just sad and heartbreaking. One user noted that Jones was a dedicated grandma, "I am so sad to hear this. Miss Maddie Jones was a good woman. I had one of her grandchildren in my pre-k class. A very dedicated grandma. RIP Miss Maddie." One pointed out the killer was at large, "Since it doesn't say you have a suspect in custody, we should assume there is a killer at large?
Prayers for the victims and their families."

"In my town, It may just be my imagination, but it feels like the violence is getting worse than ever in Florida (and it wasn't great before)," a Twitter user wrote.
