Amazon Prime Video edges past Netflix to become biggest streaming platform in the US
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: There was a time when traditional cable networks and TV used to rule everything, and even though millions of people still watch a lot of their favorite titles on TV, streaming services have undoubtedly dented their market by giving viewers quality content every now and then. Netflix started the streaming wars by becoming the biggest streaming platform in the US and over the years, it has ruled the charts by garnering a lot of subscribers from every corner of the US. However, it seems Netflix’s reign has finally come to an end as Amazon Prime Video has edged past the aforementioned streaming service as the biggest platform in the nation.
According to the renowned research firm Parks Associates (via Deadline), data shows that Prime Video has become the #1 streaming service in the United States as of 2022. This is the first time in the last four years that Netflix has been dethroned from the domestic streaming market. The rankings by the research firm are based on the estimated numbers of subscribers through September 2022 from the firm’s OTT Video Market Tracker. The report also indicates that Netflix has more than 73.4 million subscribers in the US.
