The president had just finished his prepared remarks at the SK Siltron plant in Bay City, Michigan, which focused on the economy, gas prices, and foreign investment in chip manufacturing. "U.S. 1, Iran 0," Biden said after the US team held off Iran after scoring in the first half. "Hey, hey hey! USA. USA!" the president gushed. "That's a big game, man," he continued, grinning. "I spoke to the coach and the players. I said you can do this. They went ahh," Biden said, suggesting the US team had its doubts about taking on Iran, the top-ranked team in the Asia group. "They did it! God love them," Biden said. "Anyway, just thought you might want to hear."

Biden then headed back off the stage to more applause as the photographers traveling with him captured the unusual appearance. The president did not mention anything related to the political turmoil Iran is going through right now during his announcement. Iran has been undergoing repeated protests since the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police custody after being arrested by the 'morality police' who enforce dress and other matters.
