Blackpink chosen as Time's Entertainer of the Year for 2022, fans rejoice: 'You've come a very long way'
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: Blackpink has been chosen as Time magazine's Entertainer of the Year for 2022, becoming the second K-pop band to earn the honor after BTS, who received the honor in 2020. The four-member K-pop group, which consists of Jennie Kim, Jisoo, Lalisa Manobal (Lisa), and Rose, was picked by YG Entertainment, a renowned South Korean record company that vigorously trains and screens musicians.
In Time magazine's feature honoring the Entertainer of the Year, the girl group looked back at their journey till now, from performing at Coachella in 2019 to singing 'Pink Venom' at the VMAs earlier this year. Lead vocalist Jennie said, "We put in a lot of work so we could look like superwomen. We're very normal girls, at the end of the day." She stated that the girl group plays from the heart despite the pressures that come with their popularity. "If we consider this in the business way, we wouldn't be able to do this," Jennie said. The group received rapid international acclaim after making its debut in 2016. Their debut album titled 'The Album' sold more than a million copies after its release in 2020 in less than a month.
