The 26th amendment declares, "the right of citizens of the United States who are eighteen years of age or older to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age." The voting age, which was initially 21 in the country eventually reduced to 18 during World War II after the slogan “Old enough to fight, old enough to vote” was born.
