Off-duty FBI agent shoots 1 dead inside Washington DC's Metro Center station, conductor hailed for saving lives

The FBI Washington Field Office said in a tweet that the agent had minor injuries and is being evaluated by medical professionals, and “The assailant is deceased.”
The bureau also said in its statement, “The FBI takes any shooting incident involving our agents or task force members seriously. In accordance with FBI policy, the shooting incident is under review by the FBI’s Inspection Division.”

WASHINGTON, D.C: A person reportedly died after being shot by someone who appeared to be a federal officer inside Washington DC's Metro Center station. The officer was rushed to a hospital with unknown injuries. The Metropolitan Police Department has reportedly responded to the scene.

"MPD is responding to assist another agency with an officer-involved shooting at the Metro Transit station," the statement read, according to The US Sun. One person also sustained non-gunshot-related injuries. NBC reported that the injuries are non-life-threatening. Washington DC Police and homicide detectives are responding to the scene. Also at the scene are DC Fire and EMS.

Reports also state that a train conductor saved lives, with a witness who was on a train when the incident took place appreciating them as a hero. Rebecca Kall, who was on the red line train toward Glenmont, recalled how the car was packed and nearly all seats were filled. Many were also standing. 

"As we approached Metro Center - and slowed, per usual when approaching a platform - I saw swarms of people running and sprinting toward exits, a couple people crouching near trash bins and seats on the platform amongst those running," she said.

"As our train picked up speed, a middle aged woman on our car was yelling 'Everybody get down, get down' and everyone in my car hit the floor, myself included, until we were in the tunnel when we slowly stood back up," she added. "Everyone was so thankful we were all alright but still very confused as to what had happened, as the metro conductor asked us all to get off and some people were saying they heard shots."

Kall recalled how some people were shocked and some cried. "Many many thanks and 'God bless you's' to the woman who yelled for us all to get down," she said. Meanwhile, a witness tweeted, "I was on the red line train when it pulled into metro center. We heard shots fired and everyone on the train hit the ground and the train didn’t stop, went on through. Everyone on our car was ok. What happened??"

"I was on the train when we just saw people running for their lives at Metro Center…I started screaming everyone get down and our entire car hit the ground. I’m still shaking like a leaf!!" another witness wrote.

Red Line trains are now single-tracking between Judiciary Square and Farragut North, and bypassing Metro Station as a result of the incident.
