Furious woke mob jump the gun after Gary Lineker reworks an old quote to celebrate Lionesses victory
Since England's Lionesses' Euro win against Germany on Sunday, July 31, Gary Lineker has been in the news continuously. First, he reportedly stirred controversy after tweeting about Chloe Kelly and her bra, and now his own reworked old quote has put him in trouble.
The English former footballer congratulating the women’s team tweeted, “Football is a simple game. 22 women chase a ball for 90 minutes and,at the end,England actually win. [email protected]” The tweet was a modification of his quote which goes like this, “Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win.”

A number of people seemed unhappy with his “lazy” effort to applaud the Lionesses as a critic said, “What kind of backhanded congrat is this. Never heard it be called simple on MoTD. But 22 women playing a [email protected]@of course they’d win. Simples. Side eye for real 😳”
The second critic wrote, “Such a gracious comment from a person who has amassed a fortune from ‘chasing a ball about’ and making inane comments. Get over yourself Lineker the ladies did what you failed to do.”
“Rather patronising comment. They actually win, which is more than England men did in the last fifty years,” the third one pointed out.

Earlier, Lineker had to face the people’s wrath online after he posted on Twitter. “The @Lionesses have only gone and done it, and Kelly is England's heroine, bra none,” his tweet read. The now-deleted tweet was in reference to Kelly’s act of taking off her shirt while celebrating a historic moment.

Though many reportedly liked the 61-year-old sports broadcaster’s witticism, there were some who found it sexist, forcing him to remove it altogether from the microblogging site.
British campaigner and writer, Karen Ingala Smith, even said, “@GaryLineker Please apologise for and condemn the sexist responses to your now deleted badly judged tweet.” Lineker responded, “It was just a play on words given the celebration. I do rubbish like that constantly on here, including on men’s football. I’ve deleted it as many people didnt see the game so missed the context.”
