The fishermen realize they have a cash cow (or rather, a cash squid) and decide to clean him up and put him up to perform. Squid-Harry is a diva, demanding glitzy outfits and constant pampering. But like all good things, his career comes to an end as he begins to lose his voice. They are quick to slice him up, turning the superstar into a plate of sushi. 

The music video has been dubbed "iconic and traumatizing at the same time," and Twitter is abuzz with reactions from fans. "Did I just watch a video of Harry styles being a singing squid and then being turned into sushi? Yes. Did I like it? Also yes. #MusicForASushiRestaurant #HarryStyles," writes one user with another adding, "How do i tell my therapist that a video of harry styles as a squid made me find life worth living again."

Someone else hilariously quipped, "I bet Disney is kicking the air rn for not casting u as the little mermaid." Another shared a GIF of a woman rubbing some tentacles, with a tweet that asked, "U need a massage ?" Others shared "spoilers without context" for the music video that no one could really have predicted. These "spoilers" included snapshots of 'Pirates of the Caribbean' character Davy Jones, a diva-like Sharpay from 'High School Musical', as well as snaps from 'SpongeBob' and 'The Little Mermaid.' Someone else noted the similarities between the different avatars of the singer in the video that resemble characters from the Disney show, with a caption "Proof harry styles can do it all."

There were other fans who decided to mine the video for meaning. "A demonstration of how the music industry works? Congratulations, Harry. A truly original music video, but the point it reflects is chilling and sad at the same time. If I've got it right..," wondered a fan. Another agreed, "As long as you make them money, they treat you like royalty, as soon as you start making mistakes they are ready to take you out, in this case literally This is what came to me !!"

The meaning behind the song was explained by Styles in an interview with Leila Fadel of NPR. "I was in a sushi restaurant in Los Angeles with my producer and one of our songs came on from the last album," he said, noting that he thought it was a "strange thing to hear in a sushi restaurant." He continued, "And then I was like – that would be a really fun album title, but then as the song started being made I kind of just set on Music for a Sushi Restaurant." To this, the interviewer remarked, "So the next time you’re in a sushi restaurant and this is playing you’ll be like 'It fits'," and Styles quipped, "I’ll be like – this is everything I’ve ever wanted."
