'Very cruel dig': Harry implies Prince William married Kate Middleton as 'she fit in the mold' and NOT for love

“For so many people in the family, especially obviously the men, there can be a temptation or urge to marry someone who fits in the mold, not someone as opposed to somebody who you are perhaps destined to be with," Harry said in the first episode of the Netflix series, as quoted by The Independent. “The difference between making decisions with your head or your heart. And my mum [Diana] made most of her decisions, if not all of them, from her heart. And I am my mother’s son," he added.

It's worth noting that Harry's father, King Charles III, married Diana in 1981 but had a long-term affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, who is now the Queen Consort, throughout their 15-year marriage. Harry's older brother William married Kate Middleton in 2011 and the couple shares three children, namely Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Among other prominent royals are the Duke of York, who was married to Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, from 1986 to 1996; and the Earl of Wessex, who has been married to Sophie, Countess of Wessex, since 1999, per The Independent.

While it is unclear who Harry was referring to as having married someone who "fits the mold," many assumed he was taking a swipe at William and Kate.

"Obvious and very cruel dig at William and Kate by Harry..." newscaster Dan Wootton tweeted. "Yep Harry making a dig so clearly at William implying his marriage wasn’t for love..." one Twitter user wrote.

"Catherine and William met at university. What mold is Harry talking about," another pointed out.

"The [ROYAL FAMILY] welcomed Harry's bride especially because she didn't fit the mold," someone else offered, noting how Meghan was openly accepted by The Firm.

"I always thought Kate and Harry were great friends, whats his gripe with her about?" another wondered.

Streaming giant Netflix described the Sussexes' new documentary, 'Harry & Meghan, as "an unprecedented six-part documentary series that explores the span of their relationship, from the early days of the couple’s courtship to the challenges and controversies that prompted them to step back from the Royal Family." The first three episodes of the series were released on December 8, while the remaining episodes are scheduled to air a week later on Thursday, December 15.
