AUSTIN, TEXAS: Republican Gov Greg Abbott who bagged over 3 million votes (55.8%) defeated Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke who received 2 million (43%) and won the reelection in Texas. Abbott was first elected in 2014 to the position that has been held by Republicans in the state since 1995. His race notably highlighted issues such as school safety, gun laws, border security, and abortion.

Abbott is known for having defended his steps on the Texas border during the only gubernatorial debate in September. He was reportedly involved in a $4 billion operation that has included migrant jails and buses to New York, Chicago, and Washington. Although he did not mention where Texas would next send buses refocusing the race on immigration, he went on to defend the destinations to some of the largest Democratic-led cities as practical and not political, reported NBC News.
