BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS: Former University of Central Florida tight end Jake Hescock died on Tuesday, December 6, at the young age of 25 due to a cardiac arrest while out on a jog in Boston, according to his family. UCF Football shared a tribute to the former TE on Facebook, saying they were "devastated" by the news.
"We are devastated to hear of the passing of Jake Hescock. He was beloved by everyone within Knight Nation," they wrote. "Our deepest condolences go out to everyone who knew Jake. He was taken too soon and will be greatly missed." Hescock played in 48 games in his career, scoring six touchdowns. His cousin wrote on social media, "It is with a heavy heart that I have to say my cousin Jake has passed on, may he rest in peace and forever shine his bright soul down upon us."

Last year, Hescock appeared in all 12 regular season games as a redshirt senior, starting three times at the tight end. He spent four seasons at UCF and one under coach Guz Malzahn, who joined the Knights in 2021. Malzahn confirmed Hescock's death on Twitter. "We're heartbroken to hear of Jake's passing," Malzahn said. "He was an incredible person, who embodied what it means to be a UCF Knight. Everyone who knew Jake loved him and he was a blessing to coach. He will be greatly missed. Kristi and I's prayers are with his whole family."
Josh Heupel, the current Tennessee head coach, coached Hescock from the 2018 to 2020 seasons. "Heartbroken on the passing of Jake Hescock," Heupel said. "He was an amazing teammate and person. Love, joy, and a passion for others were embodied by him. My heartfelt condolences and prayers are with the Hescock and UCF Family."
Hescock spent one season with the scout team at Wisconsin as a true freshman in 2016 before arriving at the UCF.
Danny White, the director of Athletics for Tennessee Athletics, tweeted, "God bless the Hescock Family. Very hard to understand this one. Rest in peace, Jake."
