Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, ended up in a huge controversy after a press conference on Wednesday, July 27, the opening day of Dallas Cowboys training camp. While remembering the former Cowboys scouting director Larry Lacewell, he said, “I’m going to get me somebody, a (M-word), to stand up there with me and dress him up like Lace and think Lace is still out here helping at practice with us." A smiling Jones added, “But here it is to Lace―really, and I’m serious about that.” However, the usage of the m-word did not go well with the Little People of America and created a spark for various discussions across social media platforms.

Later in the evening, Jerry Jones stated in a statement, “Earlier today I made a reference which I understand may have been viewed as offensive. I apologize,” Little People of America is one of the world’s largest dwarfism foundation, In a statement released on 2015, LPA advocated abolishing the “M-word.” It stated the M-term “should never be used in reference to a person with dwarfism. ”The M-word “was never coined as the official term to identify people with dwarfism but was created as a label used to refer to people of short stature who were on public display for curiosity and sport,” the statement read. “Today, the [M-word] is considered a derogatory slur. The dwarfism community has voiced that they prefer to be referred to as dwarfs, little people, people of short stature or having dwarfism, or simply, and most preferably, by their given name.” LPA stated.
