'A patriotic anthem': John Rich's 'Progress' tops iTunes with a daring take on the liberal agenda

“There’s a hole in this country where its heart used to be,” Rich opens the track. “They say building back better will make America great,” he continues, seemingly mocking Biden's 2020 campaign slogan. “If that’s the wave of the future, all I’ve got to say…Stick your progress where the sun don’t shine. Keep your big mess away from me and mine. If you leave us alone, well, we’d all be just fine.”

According to the Washington Examiner, 'Progress' beat new releases from pop stars Billie Eilish and Lizzo, as well as 'Running Up That Hill' by Kate Bush. "Here I am with no record label, no publisher, no marketing deal," Rich told Just the News after his song topped the charts. "It is bypassing this machine that they've built, going right around the machine, going right to the people.”

Several right-wing personalities showered praise on the performer.

"My friend @JohnRich has a new song out today called "Progress!" It's a new anthem for Patriots coast to coast!" actor Chad Prather added.

"Rich’s lyrics feel like a poignant love story for the millions of Americans struggling to identify with the progressive movement sweeping Washington D.C. and leaching into blue enclaves across the country," the Daily Caller's Kay Smythe wrote of the song, noting how it covered "everything from the importance of Jesus, faith, the travesty of the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, lockdowns, homelessness, and the border crisis."

“America is finding unity in the pain," Rich tweeted shortly before releasing the track. "The more pain they bring, the more bonded we become. It’s working in reverse of what they hoped for," he added.
