'Katy Keene' Season 1 off to a good start as fans compare its vibe to 'Gossip Girl' and 'Devil Wears Prada'
This article contains spoilers for 'Katy Keene' Season 1 Episode 1
The much anticipated 'Katy Keene' series made its debut on The CW on February 6, 2020, and although it's too early to judge, it's safe to say fans enjoyed the introduction to the Archieverse character. The pilot episode set up a story for four characters, Katy Keene (Lucy Hale), Jorge/Ginger Lopez (Jonny Beauchamp), Pepper Smith (Julia Chan), and Riverdale's Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray). These four young adults want to try and make it big in the entertainment industry as they wait to fulfill their "wish upon a star" dreams, but not everything goes according to plan since they are dreaming in New York, a city that never sleeps.
Katy wants to follow in the footsteps of her ambitious mother late Katherine Keene (Samantha Smart) who was a seamstress. Using her mother's sewing machine, Katy has almost perfected her designing talent and decides to make a hit career out of her lifelong dream. When you add in the bright lights of NYC and the adamant competitive attitude of its residents, it makes for a show that brings back the days where we reminisced about being on the MET steps with Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) and Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively). If you haven't guessed it by now, yes, we're talking about 'Gossip Girl!'
Fans couldn't help but notice that the show had vibes of past hits such as 'Ugly Betty,' 'Sex and the City', 'Glee', 'The Carrie Diaries' and 'Gossip Girl' - so what's not to like? "This show is Gossip Girl meets Devil Wears Pravda vibes and we’re here for all of it #KatyKeene," tweeted a fan.
Some dreamed of a life on these shows, "I love every show set in New York. Gossip Girl, Sex and The City, Katy Keene. I just love New York. I love to live the fantasy of the NYC life. Hopefully one day I’ll actually get to live there. #[email protected] @lucyhale @iamamurray," tweeted a hopeful fan. Even the skeptics thought about the premiere twice, "Hmm, #KatyKeene looks pretty promising, first time CW aired a drama that was shot here in NYC since Gossip Girl," tweeted a future fan.
While one fan tweeted, "It’s the first episode and I’m in love with the @TheCW series @CWKatyKeene!!! #KatyKeene Teaching us that we have to follow our dreams no matter what people have to say," and with most others echoing the same sentiments, we're guessing they are thinking what we are thinking - we can't wait for the next episode!
'Katy Keene' airs Thursdays at 8 pm EST on The CW.
