Dykstra wrote on his Twitter account, "I am sorry about your loss in the election, @laurenboebert. Who knows what funny business was going on!?Anyhow, I know this must be a difficult time, and just keep in mind that you have someone right here to talk to (or whatever other kind of needs you may have right now). DM me?"

The World Series champion was instantly attacked by social media users for trying to contact the Republican gun rights enthusiast. "What a weird post dude made. Is he trying to hook up?" tweeted one user. Another user joked, "Proof that even after you retire from baseball, you can still swing and a miss."

Another user wrote, "OMG. He's still disgusting." One user penned, "They don't call this man "Nails" for no reason." In the wake of concerns that new Twitter CEO Elon Musk might implement a paywall, several users claimed that this message alone makes Twitter worth $8 per month.

One user tweeted, "Like a lot of people, I've been thinking of leaving twitter lately, and then I see Lenny Dykstra trying to slide into Boebert's DM's & realize why I can probably never leave this site."

One user quipped, "You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. Keep swinging Nails." "S**t, this app may be worth 8 bucks after all," wrote one user. One user expressed shock, "Lenny Dykstra would like to fill Lauren Boebert's "needs." 

Boebert, a fervent Trump supporter and the first female congresswoman from Colorado's third congressional district, is locked in a tight contest with Democrat Adam Frisch. The New York Times reported that Frisch is only ahead by a.02 percent edge with more than 95 percent of the ballots cast and counted. 

Dykstra claimed that the GOP candidate did not respond to his polite invitation for conversation. According to the Daily Dot, he claimed that he "loves" the responses to his tweet, "especially those from people who apparently are now reconsidering their decision to leave Twitter."

When a user commented on his post mentioning it as legendary, the former baseball player responded and wrote, "So “legendary” she hasn’t responded (yet), : (."
