Nike denies involvement in Lil Nas X’s Satan Shoes

Lil Nas X surely managed to raise eyebrows with his 'Satan Shoes' but global shoe brand Nike did not waste any time to deny their involvement in the same. The shoes which are Nike’s classic Air Max 97s, got customized as per Nas X’s taste but the brand soon shared an official statement where they stated, “We do not have a relationship with Little Nas X or MSCHF. Nike did not design or release these shoes and we do not endorse them”, reports NBC News. The brand MSCHF had previously released a pair of customized Nike Air Max 97s known as the "Jesus Shoes," which contained what it described as holy water in its sole drawn from the River Jordan. 

Did Lil Nas X apologize for the controversy?

When Lil Nas X was getting crucified on the Internet over his new shoes, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem also took to Twitter to slam the new pair of shoes. In her tweet, she posted, “Our kids are being told that this kind of product is, not only okay, it's "exclusive". But do you know what's more exclusive? Their God-given eternal soul. We are in a fight for the soul of our nation. We need to fight hard. And we need to fight smart. We have to win."

 

The Georgia native, instead of apologizing or holding himself back, logged into his Twitter to fire back at the Governor. Reverting to her tweet, he asked her to focus on her job. “Ur a whole governor and u on here tweeting about some damn shoes. do ur job!”  In another tweet, he also defended his 'Satan Shoes' and shared, “Y’all gotta admit... the shoes hard! u cannot sit here and lie.”

Nas X decided further to have fun with netizens as he shared a video on his official YouTube account with the caption, “Lil Nas X apologizes for Satan Shoe”. In the video, the singer can be seen holding the sneaker and before he gets to apologizing, the video abruptly cuts to the clip from 'Montero' of him giving the devil a lap dance. Looking at the backlash, Nas X then took to his Twitter and announced that a new pair of customized white Nike Air Max 97s saying, “We have decided to drop these to even the score. damn y’all happy now?” The new pic revealed the text which read “John 3:16” taken from the Bible verse. It also comes with a text “Chic-Fil-A” along with the text “My Pleasure” and it seems he again trolled the Internet as the name is of a popular chicken sandwich brand.

The fresh pair will be available from March 29 at 11 am EST. One can also check for all the updates via MSCHF app. Each pair will sell for $1,018 as a nod to the Bible verse printed on the side of the shoes "Luke 10:18". If you looking forward to grab them, then you might need to hurry as only 666 pairs will be made available.

Speaking to the website Snopes over the mail, MSCHF founding team member Daniel Greenberg revealed that 'Satan' shoes leaked early on Twitter but won’t be available until 11 am on March 29. He added that Lil Nas X did indeed collaborate with MSCHF on the product. Greenberg further revealed, that the concept of blood in the shoes belonged to MSCHF team and that MSCHF buys the shoes from Nike, and makes their own creative modifications before selling them.

The Internet did not waste any time to slam Lil Nas X over his new pair of shoes. While a majority of them got furious over the new announcement, a few also extended their support. One user said, “There’s no reason why people are this mad at Lil Nas X like whatever he does affects them of something. This is the part where ppl are supposed to mind the business that pays them.”

Another added, “Although I will say Lil Nas X and his video giving Satan a lap dance and his Satan shoes is giving a defibrillator to the Christian movement.” The next one shared, “LilNasX worships satan. he is trash period his music is trash his shoes are dumb Face with tears of joy mfker can’t even sing.” Another posted, “I feel like the nike satan shoes with human blood in them is f**ked up & so is lil nas x. i don't care if he's a gay rapper. wtf is with all this vampire shit. can we stop?” One stated, “Bro ppl legit mad cuz lil nas x got satanic shoes now.. dawg it’s a shoe.. it’s not that serious and even if it was who tf cares it’s his opinion, if he believes in satan let him believe that shit it’s not my problem, f**k wrong with y’all.”

Talking about his new white shoes, one Instagram fan wrote, “I heard they have a drop of Chick-fil-A sauce in each shoe,” while another asked, "Do they come with Chick-fil-A sauce." Another said, “Nah I’ll take the Satan pair.”
