Rapper Master P has said that DMX's heart attack could have been avoided as the hip-hop legend fights for his life at a New York hospital. The 'I Miss My Homies' hitmaker has called for better education and a union to support hip-hop artists after it emerged that DMX had suffered an alleged drug overdose that resulted in a myocardial infarction last Friday.

Describing DMX as an "icon", Master P told TMZ he hoped "God spares him." "I hate that we have to wait until something happens to these guys, to one of us, before everybody really starts saying how much they care and they love you. We have to do something about that," he stressed. "The truth hurts. Drugs have killed a lot of our great ones. It’s sent a lot of them to prison. I’m praying for DMX and his family."
