The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, surprised her fans on Thursday after she made an impromptu appearance at Wimbledon to attend her friend Serena Williams' match. Markle, who is presumptively still on maternity leave after giving birth to her son Archie, reportedly attended the match to support her longtime friend.

The tennis star played Slovenia's Kaja Juvan Thursday in the second round of the competition. Meghan and Williams have been friends for several years and the tennis ace even attended the Royal Wedding last year.

The Duchess, who was seen in blue jeans, black top and a white blazer, looked happy and relaxed. Her hair was tied back and she was wearing sunglasses. She attended the match with two old university friends, Lindsey Roth and Genevieve Hills. Their attendance sparked rumors they might be Archie's mysterious godparents. The Duchess was reportedly Roth's maid of honor at her wedding.

Markle's Wimbledon appearance comes just a day after she and Prince Harry announced they would not be publicizing the names of their son's godparents. However, Roth and Hills' visit to the U.K. has fuelled speculation they will be attending the christening ceremony Saturday and could very well be Archie's godparents.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have expressed their desire to keep their celebrations relatively private. The couple, earlier this week, however, released a few details about the upcoming event.

"Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor will be christened in a small private ceremony by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle on Saturday 6 July," a statement from Buckingham Palace read. "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex look forward to sharing some images taken on the day by photographer Chris Allerton. The godparents, in keeping with their wishes, will remain private."
