Meghan Markle flew to New York to see her good friend Serena Williams compete in the finals of the US Open at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Saturday, and turned several heads with her easy-going summer look. Meghan, 38, was snapped going through a series of emotions as she cheered for Serena, but would ultimately be left disappointed as she fell in straight sets to her teenage Canadian opponent Bianca Andreescu.

And while the cameras were undoubtedly focused on Serena, Meghan didn't go unnoticed either. The Duchess of Sussex wore a denim shirt-dress from American fashion retailer J. Crew that one could buy off the shelf for a relatively modest $118. To complete the outfit, she wore a light grey cardigan coat also from J. Crew that retails for a little over $99 and sported some aviator shades.

Meghan is said to have first met Serena at a Super Bowl Party in 2010, with the two going on to become very close to each other over the coming years. The friendship grew deeper after Meghan starting dating Prince Harry and started coming under heavy public scrutiny, with Serena reportedly giving her tips on how to handle herself in the media. They've been photographed together on many occasions, and have often gone out of their way to show their support for the other.

We previously reported that Meghan had stayed up until 1:30 am UK time to watch Serena beat Elina Svitolina, and then immediately booked a flight to New York at 8:30 am on Friday. The last-minute plans saw her take a commercial flight to the US and leave Prince Harry and their four-month-old son Archie behind in Windsor. The sudden trip also meant that the Sussexes would not be joining the Queen in Balmoral in the Scottish Highlands, a move seen as a snub since the rest of the Royal Family had made the long trek to Aberdeenshire.
