STARKVILLE, MISSISSIPPI: Mississippi State head football coach Mike Leach died at age 61 on December 12 after complications related to a heart condition. The coach had suffered a 'massive' heart attack and was in critical condition on Sunday, December 11. He was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson.

During his treatment, he suffered from heart condition complications which led to his death at the hospital on Monday, said reports. UMMC announced the death of Leach on December 13, morning. "Mike was a giving and attentive husband, father, and grandfather. He was able to participate in organ donation at UMMC as a final act of charity. We are supported and uplifted by the outpouring of love and prayers from family, friends, Mississippi State University, the hospital staff, and football fans around the world. Thank you for sharing in the joy of our beloved husband and father's life," read the statement by the coach's family.
