The Apollo 17 mission marked the last manned trip to the moon, with commander Gene Cernan, lunar module pilot Harrison “Jack” Schmitt and command module pilot Ronald Evans being the final people to touch the lunar surface. However, a YouTube video titled "Reflection in a Visor. Where’s the reflection of the camera taking the photo?" claimed the visor shot could be evidence of illegitimacy, as narrated by YouTuber Streetcap1 in the 2017 clip. The content creator claimed that a reflection in the visor of one of the astronauts showed a "stagehand" as the person was allegedly not wearing a spacesuit. "You can see some sort of, it looks like a man, back in the early ’70s, long hair, wearing some sort of waistcoat-type thing… and a shadow of that figure, presumably," the narrator said as he used his mouse to outline the figure. "Where's this guy’s space suit?" Streetcap1 continued later in the clip, which has been viewed nearly three million times.

While some agreed with the findings and lauded the YouTuber, not everyone was convinced of the supposed discovery.

"Sure looks like an astronaut to me. The shadow shows the backpack as well," one wrote.

"To me, it clearly looks like another astronaut with the white, bulky spacesuit. You can see that he has both arms slightly stretched forward and the shadow shows the bulkiness of the spacesuit, including the life support on his back," another added.

"All I can see is an astronaut being distorted by the curved reflection on the helmet. You could say it looks like anything, it could be a space alien. but it's not... It's just an astronaut that's looking kinda weird due to how reflections work and how blowing up a frame from an old video turns out," someone else offered.

Many conspiracy theorists have maintained that the US government fabricated their journey to the moon in a bid to beat the rest of the world and win the "space race." However, despite space experts debunking such claims, the wildest of claims continue to be perpetuated.

Some claim the US flag appeared to be rippling in the wind despite the vacuum in space. NASA explained this by saying it created a special flag to use in space since there would be no wind to keep the flag upright, which would have resulted in a lackluster shot. Some others have claimed that the stars aren't visible in the photos and that various shadows don't seem to align with light sources, the New York Post reported.
