Piers Morgan wants 'man' to play Wonder Woman if Bond is ever played by a female

Speaking of James Bond, it appears Morgan has a real issue with star Daniel Craig. During the world premiere in London, Craig showed up in a pink suede suit, which Morgan was quick to slam. "James Bond would never wear a garish pink suede dinner jacket. You’re supposed to be a steely-eyed assassin with exemplary sartorial taste, Mr Craig…. not an Austin Powers tribute act," he tweeted. But if there's one thing the two can agree on, is that James Bond should definitely not be a woman.

The female 007 conundrum

For over a year, there's been a massive debate on who the next 007 should be. Names have been floated, including some actors of color and even women. Many believe the title of James Bond should go to a female character, a symbol of representation in the post #MeToo era. In fact, there's a strong rumor going around that Lashana Lynch does play 007 in 'No Time To Die', albeit as Nomi, not Bond. 

Craig himself weighed in on the debate in an interview with Radio Times. "There should simply be better parts for women and actors of color. Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a part just as good as James Bond, but for a woman?" he noted. That's the line being taken by many fans, continuing a tradition that stretches back 50 years since Sean Connery first wore the iconic tuxedo in 'Dr. No'. 

Morgan has now decided to weigh in as well, in a lengthy column for The Daily Mail. "To me, 007 epitomizes everything a man should strive to be: he's handsome, intelligent, courageous, tough, eloquent, witty, suave, sophisticated, determined, and ruthless when he needs to be," Morgan wrote. He then went on to rant, "James Bond is an uncompromising womanizing assassin who'd rather shoot himself than drink from the woke fountain of insufferable virtue-signaling b------t. But, with a chilling inevitability, the wokies have now come for 007, and they present a more lethal threat to him than Oddjob, Goldfinger or Jaws ever did."

Morgan seemed particularly offended by UK's opposition leader Kier Starmer's comments that "it's time for a female Bond." That triggered him to write "create your own bloody spies, ladies." He concluded, "You can no more have a female Bond than a male lead in a female-led movie franchise. Can you even begin to imagine the howls of outrage if the next Wonder Woman movie was suddenly announced as Wonder Man?" 

'You do know he's a fictional character'

As soon as Morgan put the column up on Twitter, the internet had a field day trolling him. One user replied with an image saying Meghan Markle should be the next Bond. Another person replied, "This is more about Piers screaming & projecting that he's a 'real man' than anything to do with bond. So fragile." One person trolled, "Real man? You do know he's a fictional character right?"

One user noted, "The article went from Bond being a woman to trashing Keir Starmer (whom I couldn't care less about), but I think it's obvious that Morgan's masculinity feels threatened....." A user replied, "When are you going to campaign for yourself to be a man?" Another said, "Genuinely, who's campaigning for James Bond to be a woman? Im sure people are just after a great female spy character in a series of books or films. Seems like you're just making up controversy at this point."

Some users did agree with Morgan and campaigned for Bond to remain a male. The debate is however moot. Barbara Broccoli, who produces the 007 films was clear that Bond was, is, and will remain male, a point he even noted in his column. Nonetheless, Morgan made it very clear "He's (James Bond) virtually the last real man standing in a Hollywood neutered by the emasculating cult of illiberal liberal fascists - and I'll fight until the last drop of my blood to save him from the woke wastrels."
