Rick Scott’s $300M Medicare fraud allegations resurface as he challenges Mitch McConnell for top GOP Senate post
WASHINGTON, DC: Senator Rick Scott is gearing up to challenge Senator Mitch McConnell for the post of minority leader when the conference holds leadership elections. McConnell, 80, has remained uncontested for 15 years and seems confident that he will get the votes this time as well. However, the GOP is reportedly under pressure due to the poor performance in the midterms so the party might just decide to bring in a change. While Scott, 69, is a fairly well competitor, people have not forgotten the alleged Medicare fraud and it is now resurfacing again.
The former governor of Florida announced that he would go up against McConnell who is currently on track to break a Senate record for being the longest-serving leader in history in 2023 during a closed-door lunch for Senate Republicans on Tuesday, November 14, 2022. Fox News Digital obtained a note that Scott penned to GOP colleagues which read, "I’m writing to you today because I believe it’s time for the Senate Republican Conference to be far more bold and resolute than we have been in the past. We must start saying what we are for, not just what we are against." He also took to this Twitter to share the news. "The status quo is broken and big change is needed. It's time for new leadership in the Senate that unites Republicans to advance a bold conservative agenda. That's why I'm running to be the Senate Republican Leader," he tweeted. Scott is also backed up by former president Donald Trump.
