We can thank a Scotty McCreery song for keeping our Hallmark Channel movie obsession alive in 2021. 'Five More Minutes,' the singer's 2018 chart-topper, has inspired a film of the same name.

One year after the release of a Hallmark Christmas movie based on 'American Idol' alum and country music artist Scotty McCreery's popular song 'Five More Minutes,' fans will soon be able to watch another film based on the famous song. 'Five More Minutes: Moments Like These' will air on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, the same channel that aired the Scotty song-inspired film last year. Despite having a similar title to last year's film and being based on Scotty's 'Five More Minutes', this year's film "is not a sequel to last year's" film and "has a brand-new storyline." We've gathered more information about the new film, such as how to see it and the music that inspired it.

What's the story behind the newest 'Five More Minutes: Moments Like These' film?

The premise of the new 'Five More Minutes' film is described briefly on the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries website. "A young widow’s Christmas wish for her son is answered in unexpected ways when she returns to their old home," the description says.

What is the song 'Five More Minutes' about?

The first single off McCreery's 2018 album, 'Seasons Change,' was 'Five More Minutes.' The song was released on May 5, 2017. The song was Scotty's first to hit No 1 on the Billboard country chart. Scotty self-released 'Five More Minutes' without the assistance of a record company after being dismissed from his old label, Mercury Nashville, in early 2016. The song was the first independently released song to reach the Top 50 country chart on Mediabase. Scotty eventually signed with Triple Tigers Records, thanks in part to the success of the song. The song was named the third-best country song of 2018 by Billboard. The Recording Industry Association of America certified 'Five More Minutes' platinum in late May 2018. In mid-January 2020, it was certified double platinum.

Scotty's late grandfather, Bill McCreery, died in 2015, and the song 'Five More Minutes' is a tribute to him. Scotty sings about different periods of his life throughout the song, from childhood to adolescence to high school football, wishing for just a little more time — five more minutes — at each moment. At the conclusion, he sings of his grandfather's final days, wishing for five more minutes with him before he died. Scotty, who is credited as a co-writer of the song, premiered it to fans at the Grand Ole Opry in 2016. Scotty told The News & Observer in 2018 that the first few times he performed 'Five More Minutes,' including during the Opry performance, he got caught up.

“I think certain times it will still get to me when I think about life like that,” he informed The N&O then. “But nowadays, when I sing it, I kind of look at the spotlights when they’re shining, and to me, it might be a little weird, but I kind of look at it as Granddaddy looking down on me when I’m singing. It kind of gives me a little comfort.”
