"Especially in that Panorama interview," he continued. "I think we all now know that she was deceived into giving the interview. But at the same time, she spoke the truth of her experience." Diana remarks in a 1995 interview excerpt that appears in the documentary, "Still to this day I find the interest daunting and phenomenal. Because I actually don’t like being the center of attention. When I have my public duties, I understand when I get out the car I’m being photographed. But actually it’s now when I go to my door, my front door, I’m being photographed. I never know where a lens is going to be."

An investigation into the BBC concluded in 2021 that Princess Diana's Panorama interview, conducted by Martin Bashir, was gained by deception after he falsified papers. Both the BBC and Bashir apologized, and the BBC also wrote to Princes William and Harry, as well as King Charles and Diana's brother Earl Spencer.

Prince William remarked at the time that he feels the techniques employed to get the interview with his mother influenced what she said. "It is my view that the deceitful way the interview was obtained substantially influenced what my mother said," the Prince of Wales added. "The interview was a major contribution to making my parents’ relationship worse and has since hurt countless others," he continued.

"It is my firm view that this Panorama program holds no legitimacy and should never be aired again. It effectively established a false narrative which, for over a quarter of a century, has been commercialized by the BBC and others." The interview with Princess Diana and the circumstances of it have been dramatized in the newest season of 'The Crown,' which is also available on Netflix. The first episode of the documentary series hosted by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex began with a warning stating "members of the royal family declined to comment on the content within this series."

Prince Harry, whose words show how he relates to some of his mother's problems, stated that he does not want "history to repeat itself." Three parts of the six-part series are now available to watch online, with the royals bracing themselves for more bombshell claims from the pair in the next three episodes, which will be broadcast next Thursday.
