“It's hilarious that an article bashing the show for retroactively editing a scene (based off a false TikTok rumor) has now had to retroactively edit their own article. Oops," the statement read.

Earlier, the ‘Stranger Things’ writers dropped a hilarious GIF from the show with a caption that read, “PSA: no scenes from previous seasons have ever been cut or re-edited. And they never will be.”

The GQ article was based on a rumor that the Duffer Brothers went back and re-edited a scene from Season 1 in which Jonathan was spying on Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer). The episode featured the elder Byers brother spotting Nancy changing in Steve’s room. However, as per a fan on TikTok, a viewer thought there was an original version of this scene where Jonathan actually took a picture of Nancy undressing. However, it is clear that there never was such a moment in the season.

Finally, after realizing their mistake, GQ corrected their article on Thursday, July 28, by mentioning “Correction: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated that a season one episode of Stranger Things had been edited retroactively to remove a shot of Jonathan photographing Nancy while she was changing,” towards the end of their story.

Twitter reactions 

Ardent fans have taken to Twitter and turned it into a tweet fest by lashing out at GQ for their story. Some of them are amused to see the writers actually standing up for Jonathan Byers. 

One fan said: “Yeah it’s hilarious like come on the duffers and the writers don’t care about Jonathan in the first place, why would they even bother and edit a scene of him," while another said, “Some people mad in the quotes as if they don’t have the right to be angry about a major news publication publishing false rumors about their show from tik tok lmao." “They are so done, I love it,” added another.

“I’m convinced the scene where Johnathan takes pictures of Nancy getting undressed never happened and is not a Mandela effect. I remember it too but im sure we all imagined it cuz it was creepy that he was there in the first place,” said a fan. “They wrote a whole article about a myth that stemmed from tiktok and everyone ran with it lol,” said a fan. “Honestly this article just needs to get removed at this point even the official writers room page is correcting them,” wrote another.
