The news has left many fans sad, including Katie Couric, who left a simple broken heart emoji in the comments section on Meyers' post. Winslet, 47, separately shut down the rumors of a second installment of the film. She told People, "I read something about that, but it’s the first I’ve heard of it. I promise you not an agent or a representative or anyone from the first one around has had any conversation with me about that. Hand on heart, that’s never come up."

In the movie 'The Holiday', Winslet and Diaz play two beautiful single women from opposite sides of the Atlantic who swap homes for the holidays. The female protagonists tour the foreign homes where they each meet a local guy (Law and Black) and fall in love.

While fans of the original film were excited about the news of a sequel, others were glad it was not happening any more. "Thank god - you cannot add to an already perfect movie," one said under Meyer's Instagram post, while a second commented, "The original is a treasure that one can watch over and over with no sequel needed." Some others pleaded Meyers to make a second part of the iconic Christmas movie. "Oh no! Please make one!" one user commented. "Please make it true!!!" added another. Someone else commented, "The way I went from dancing around my kitchen to audibly sighing the saddest sigh. Damn. Well, at least we have the first one forever and ever."

The movie was a box office hit, earning $63M domestically and $205M worldwide on an $85M budget, according to Box Office Mojo. It is currently streaming on Hulu.
