Lanez was released from house arrest on Monday, December 5, which he has been under since October for allegedly beating up another rapper. Kylie Jenner and Corey Gamble could be called as witnesses in the trial. It was revealed the pool party the rappers attended was at Jenner's home and the alleged brawl first took place there. After the party, Lanez and Meghan were driving together when Meghan demanded that the driver stop the car and she got out, which was when Lanez allegedly started firing a gun toward her, injuring her foot so seriously that she needed surgery.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge David Herriford terminated the house arrest and ruled Lanez's $350,000 bond in the case would stand. While Deputy District Attorney Kathy Ta had argued that Lanez had allegedly attempted to bribe and intimidate witnesses, and urged the continuation of his monitoring via an ankle monitor. However, Lanez's defense attorney denied these claims. "If he's required to have a monitor on his ankle in front of jurors, I think it's just punitive," Daily Mail quoted him as sayinh, "It doesn't serve any purpose. If he's going to dissuade a witness, all probation is going to know is where he is. It doesn't mean he can't meet with that person."  

Megan previously told Gayle King, co-host of 'CBS This Morning', that while Lanez was shooting, he was screaming "Dance, bi***." "Everything happens so fast," she told King. "All I hear is this man screaming, ''Dance bi***." "He started shooting….I didn't want to move too quick because I'm like ''Oh my God…..I don't know if he can shoot me and kill me.'' I was really scared because I had never been shot at before," reported the source. Meghan reportedly told King that Lanez offered her a million dollars to hush her about the incident.

However, social media had mixed reaction to his new charge. "This happens when you know you’re about to lose the case trying to add a lesser charge in hopes that sticks not defending anybody but u see this happen all the time," a user speculated. Another user joked, "*pretends to be shocked*" A Twitter user wrote, "oh he’s going to jail." Another chimed, "AND DEPORTED ?!?!?" "Explain to me how a new charge means someone is automatically guilty," read a tweet.
