Celebrities who already had a blue checkmark on Twitter, such as 'One Day at a Time' actress Valerie Bertinelli and 'Roswell' actor Brendan Fehr, changed their names on the site to "Elon Musk" in a subtle dig against its new $7.99/month charge for the service. “Trash me all day, but it’ll cost $8,” Musk had tweeted earlier on November 4. Fehr on Twitter stated, “Is Elon Musk as worried that all his tweets are from ‘Elon Musk’ as I am? I mean, even my good ones.”

According to heavy.com, Twitter, which is still ‘adjusting’ to the Musk era, began to see Bertinelli's name trending. Her page, @Wolfiesmom, featured a blue checkmark on November 6, 2022, but it said "Elon Musk." She went on to tweet “The blue checkmark simply meant your identity was verified. Scammers would have a harder time impersonating you. That no longer applies. Good luck out there!”
