What is 'Tortured Man Club?' Andrew Scott's quirky WhatsApp group chat includes Joe Alwyn, Paul Mescal

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Paul Mescal, Joe Alwyn, and Andrew Scott have a WhatsApp group called 'Tortured Man Club', Alwyn and Mescal are popular for their bonding in Sally Rooney adaptations. However, the duo met Scott two years ago while filming a skit for RTE Does Comic Relief. 

According to Variety, the brain behind forming this group is Scott. In the interview, Mescal asked, "So what’s the name of the WhatsApp group that we’re in?" To which Alwyn says, "It’s the Tortured Man Club, I think. It’s me, you — and Andrew Scott started the group." Mescal further responded, "He’s just on it every day. He’s just on it by himself."

Alwyn further claimed, "Just messaging himself good mornings. We were both in the Sally Rooney universe and crossed over with Lenny Abrahamson. We were so lucky to have that experience." Mescal has previously starred in Normal People (2020) and Alwyn in Conversations with Friends (2022) of the Salley Rooney universe. Alwyn has also spoken about the group in an earlier interview with GQ, he claimed that "The Tortured Man Club is, I guess a reflection on Mescal’s character in Normal People Connell and Nick.”
