The last full moon of the year is here. The peak of the full moon falls on December 7, which also happens to be the last full moon of 2022. You'll have some extra time to enjoy the ‘cold moon’ as it reaches its maximum brightness just after 11 pm. The name ‘cold moon’ for December's full moon refers to how the winter season has taken over much of the United States.

According to NASA, in the 1930s, numerous moon names from Native American tribes were reproduced in a book now referred to as the Old Farmer's Almanac. “The long night moon gets its name because the full moon in December occurs near the solstice, which has the longest night of the year,” NASA remarks. The Frost Moon and the Winter Moon are two additional tribal names that reflect similar attributes.
